  • Telluride's gondola system is unique in North America.
  • The ride from Telluride to Mountain Village takes about 13 minutes and has three stations.
  • The gondola runs during the winter and summer seasons and is always free.

Overview

Telluride’s gondola is the first and only public transportation system of its kind in North America and is worth the trip for the views alone. The 13-minute ride from Telluride to Mountain Village offers spectacular 360 degree views of Telluride, the ski area, Palmyra Peak and the Wilson Range. The gondola is an eco-friendly alternative to traditional bus and shuttle systems, and is partially powered by wind.

Location/Directions

The gondola has three stations.

  • The Oak Street station in Telluride is located at the intersection of Oak Street and San Juan Street on the south flank of town.
  • Station St. Sophia is the mid-mountain stop and the access point for mountain bike trails in summer and skiing in winter. The entrance to Allred’s Restaurant & Bar is here as well.
  • Station Mountain Village overlooks the ski resort’s base area and the core business district of Mountain Village.

Hours/Seasons

The gondola operates in the summer and winter seasons from 7 a.m. to midnight. It usually opens in late-May and runs until the middle of October in the summer. The winter schedule partially coincides with the ski resort, running from mid-November until the resort closes during the first week of April.

Fees/Cost

The gondola is always free.
