Wildlife
Telluride is home to many kinds of wildlife. Sightings of mule deer and elk are common; other large mammals you might see in the area are black bears, coyotes and mountain lions. Marmots, pika, hare, beaver and porcupine are some of the smaller animals you might see. If you look to the sky or into the trees, you will be able to spot many different types of birds-including eagles, songbirds and waterfowl.
Wildlife sightings can happen at any time, so it is important that you are prepared for travel through the Rocky Mountains. Having your camera ready to capture these events is just part of it! Make sure to properly dispose of garbage, and if you are camping, make sure you have prepared accordingly, storing all food and other attractants in bear proof storage containers. Give wildlife plenty of room...although beautiful, it is not tame! Don't approach animals, even if babies look sick or disoriented...chances are their family is right around the corner, and you don't want to get between a baby and her protective mother.
