Dolores River
Traveling for more than two hundred miles through southwestern Colorado, the Dolores River flows from high in the San Juan Mountains down to the point where it joins the Colorado River near the Colorado-Utah border. The River drops in elevation from 8,155 feet to 5,000 feet as it descends toward Utah.
The scenery along the Dolores River is a chapter out of an "Old West" novel. Due to its change in elevation, the River flows from high, heavily forested regions to steep, dry desert canyon walls. The waters of the river are clean, clear and cold. For the most part, the Delores River is fed by the melting snow. This makes the water very cold and the high water season very short.
Despite rumors to the contrary, the Delores River is a good place for fishing. Fishing amidst this spectacular scenery is worth the trip. The River has at least twelve miles of great fishable water that can provide all types of opportunities for fish tales.
The fact that the Delores River is remote and considered by many to be in the middle of nowhere – adds to its appeal.
