Alpine Lakes
The Telluride area is well known for its scenic beauty. There are many ways to experience that beauty, from simply visiting the town, to hiking any number of trails in the surrounding mountains, to casting your fishing line into the any of the numerous alpine lakes found in those mountains.
The area around Telluride, Colorado is an angler's dream. The numerous streams, rivers and alpine lakes are teeming with brown trout, brook trout, rainbow trout and golden trout. These spectacular waterways are enticing to the experienced angler and the novice alike.
The scenery is spectacular as you rest beside a clear, cool alpine lake and enjoy the bright blue sky above. The ragged mountain peaks reach to the clouds and beyond. In this land of 14,000 foot peaks, the area is filled with opportunities for hunting, fishing and wildlife viewing.
Some of the lakes are regularly stocked with fish and thus, provide a great place for beginning anglers to learn fishing techniques. In other alpine lakes, regular stocking does not occur and the native trout grow large, wild and become much harder to catch.
When the thigh deep snow melts and becomes thigh deep water, when the snowstorms are replaced by the bright sun light and the breeze blowing through the trees is transporting the smell of wildflowers instead of snowflakes, take a hike to the alpine lakes surrounding Telluride, Colorado and simply enjoy!
