McPhee Recreation Area

Located just sixty-five miles southwest of Telluride, Colorado you will find the McPhee Recreation Area. The area also includes McPhee Reservoir, which offers many opportunities for adventure to include fishing, picnicking, hiking, boating and camping. Additionally you can enjoy a little water skiing and/or flat-water canoeing.

You can travel to the McPhee Recreation Area and McPhee Reservoir year round. The average elevation in the area is roughly 7,400 feet so in comparison to other places in Colorado, this are stays fairly warm all year and in the summer, it can get very hot.

The Reservoir offers fifty miles of shoreline and it is stocked with several species of fish including trout, bass, crappie bluegill and catfish. So be sure to bring your fishing gear and your boat.

On the south side of the water, you will find the campground. Here you will find seventy-six sites to choose from, picnic sites, flush toilets and other camping amenities. Camp fee vary depending on the season. There is limited shade everywhere in the recreation area including the campground.

As always, when you camp, be sure to store all food and anything with an aroma in a manner which will not attract unwanted visitors to your campsite - skunks, marmots, porcupines, raccoons, squirrels, and chipmunks all have an acute sense of smell.
