San Miguel County
San Miguel County was created in 1883 from Ouray County. The county seat is Telluride, which is located in the easterly, mountainous part of the county. The county itself is located in the southwest area of the State of Colorado and is the home of some of the most spectacular scenery in the west.
San Miguel County is the home to Telluride, Colorado. Other towns in the county include the Mountain Village, Norwood, Ophir, and Sawpit. Originally founded based on mining, San Miguel County's chief economic resource is tourism. The approximate population of the county is 7,000 individuals.
Located in the San Juan Mountains, San Miguel County has fantastic scenery which includes many high mountain peaks, and vast lush valleys. Each season brings something new to see and do in the county. From snow related activities in the winter, to wildlife and wildflower viewing in the summer, to the enjoyment of the hues of autumn colors, there is something for everyone year round in this area.
